  2. Many of you have had questions recently on NetWare 9000 S/800.  Here's a
  3. quick update on some of the latest developments:
  4.  
  5. Q:  What is the positioning of NetWare on the HP 9000 relative Native
  6.     NetWare on Intel Servers.
  7.  
  8. A:  NetWare on the HP 9000 Series 800 should be positioned as follows:
  9.  
  10.     - It should not be sold as a performance solution, but as a
  11.       connectivity solution to integrate PC's into the Enterprise
  12.  
  13.     If your customer is looking for file and print only server for
  14.     a small workgroup, they probably are better off with a Native
  15.     Intel server.  If your customer has an application which requires
  16.     an HP 9000 and they wish to add file and print or integrate into
  17.     an existing NetWare environment, or have a large number of users,
  18.     then an HP 9000 Series 800 is a good fit.

  20. Q:  When will NetWare 3.11 be available on HP-UX 9.0?
  21.  
  22. A:  It will be available on DART 9.  Dart 9 is expected to ship
  23.     to customers February 26, 1993.  NOTE:  Dart 9 will require a DLPA
  24.     patch which the field SE's can obtain from the Response Center.  This
  25.     patch will be available Feb. 26.

  27. Q:  When will NetWare be available over Token Ring?
  28.  
  29. A:  NetWare over Token Ring will be available in DART 11.
  30.  
  31. Q: Is any effort being made to measure and improve the performance
  32.    and quality of NetWare on the HP 9000?
  33.  
  34. A: Yes,  We are currently doing performance testing on the 3.11
  35.    release and should have results available in the second quarter.
  36.    The lab is also actively correcting defects and identifying
  37.    ways to improve performance.  This activity has been funded
  38.    for this fiscal year so we should hopefully expect results
  39.    by the end of the year.  We are still in the investigation
  40.    process, so we don't know how much performance is expected
  41.    to improve, if at all, however, we will keep you posted as
  42.    things materialize.

  45. Q: How do I get replacement code words for customers who have lost
  46.    their original codeword?
  47.  
  48. A: Customers must save their software certificate which was included
  49.    in their original shipment.  They must fax that certificate to SRDO
  50.    to request the code word.

  52. Q: How have NetWare Sales been doing on the HP 9000 S/800?
  53.  
  54. A: NetWare sales on the HP 9000 Series 800 have grown tremendously
  55.    since introduction on the CPL last April.  So much so, that HP is
  56.    Novell's #1 reseller of NetWare for UNIX; We sell more copies
  57.    than anyone!  Many customers today are pleased
  58.    with NetWare's ability to link PC LAN's into
  59.    HP 9000 mission critical applications.  We have several success
  60.    stories available to help you sell.
